Some men know about as much about buying flowers as some women know about power tools. Fortunately, we don't all have to be experts, there is help out there in the form of your friendly neighborhood flower shop.

So to make things easier, here’s a list of flower arrangements you should avoid at all costs. Learn it. Live it. Love it. And you’ll never go wrong when making your selection.

• Flowers in a mug. These are for your assistant, colleague or professor.

• Flowers accompanied by a cute stuffed animal. These are for your little sister or niece’s birthday and are acceptable romantically only in certain circumstances.

• Arrangements that are too big. If these arrangements are sent to office environments, these can be awkward to carry home and, well, sort of embarrassing.

• Flowers from the grocery store. Although many of the upscale grocery stores are putting together amazing floral departments, save these grocery store flowers for presents to your dinner host or for decorating your own romantic love nest.

The bottom line here is that your choice of flower arrangement should be romantic and tasteful. When in doubt, ask for another woman’s opinion.    Back to Index
